Research Interests:
-
Investigation of surfaces by nuclear phenomena
-
Crystalline surfaces and two-dimensional clusters are investigated
through the recoil of nuclei undergoing weak decay and scattering off their
immediate atomic neighborhood. The work involves the preparation of suitable
isotopes, their deposition on the surfaces in ultrahigh vacuum systems,
and conducting the measurements. This is done in conjunction with theoretical
analysis that relates it to the substrate-adsorbate interaction.
-
Thickness measurement and thin film characterization by alpha particle
energy loss
-
Applications of the nuclear phenomenology of alpha-particle
energy loss include thickness
-
measurements in real time in MBE and MOCVD systems, and investigations
of complex
-
three-dimensional structures following growth.
-
Molecular dynamics calculations
-
Intensive molecular dynamics calculations are carried out
for both metallic and complex (metal-oxide) systems. The calculations are
carried out on parallel computers and apply specially developed algorithms.
Among other problems, the macroscopic formation of faults in matter are
investigated.
