CHALLENGES IN QCD
June 20-23, 1999
Kfar Giladi, Israel
First Circular
We are organizing
a workshop that will address subjects at the frontiers of QCD. The format
of the workshop is intended to stimulate critical discussions. Each subject
will be reviewed in a few invited lectures, followed by panel (and audience)
discussions, which will emphasize the future directions of the subject.
We plan to have the lectures in the morning sessions and the discussions
in the evenings, with the afternoon free for informal discussions, amidst
the region's scenic attractions.
The subjects of the talks and discussions planned
at present:
-
Spontaneously broken chiral symmetry in QCD, nuclear
physics and expected phase transitions
-
Experimental studies of spontaneously broken chiral
symmetry
-
Progress in lattice QCD calculations
-
Theoretical status of light-cone wave functions of
hadrons
-
Review of structure functions of nucleons and nuclei,
comparison between QCD predictions and data
-
Hard diffractive processes and large rapidity gap
physics at FNAL, HERA
-
QCD predictions for hard diffractive phenomena including
color transparency (CT)
-
Overview of progress in soft diffractive processes
-
Theoretical status of CT in moderate energy processes
-
Experimental status of CT and of light-cone wave
functions of hadrons, as measured in hard diffractive processes
-
Overview of experimental status of CT at moderate
energies
-
Baryon spin structure functions: theory and experiment
-
QCD predictions of new forms of hadronic matter
-
Search for exotic hadrons: theory
-
Search for exotic hadrons: experiments
-
Gribov's work on confinement in QCD

Location:
Kfar Giladi is a Kibbutz in the hills
of northern Galilee with Mount Hermon
and surrounding ranges nearby. The Hula Nature
Reserve and the sea of
Galilee are in the vicinity.
Related Workshop:
The "Small-x" workshop will be held
in Tel Aviv University June 16-18
in the week preceding the "Challenges in QCD"
workshop.
On Saturday, June 19 an excursion will depart
from Tel Aviv
in the morning and arrive at Kfar Giladi in
the evening.
The excursion is open to participants of both
workshops.
